Jimmie Matthews and his Art Students

Jimmie Matthews was an art teacher in Rock Hill, South Carolina. These images were taken in 2015 while he and his art students painted a mural on plywood covering the work site just after the old Woolworth's building was dismanted on Main Street. This mural stood in the Old Town area for months before the apartment building was started that stands there today.

Jimmie was well known for not just his artistic talent, but his ability to work so well with students. Jimmie passed in early 2016 suddenly and has been missed by all that knew him. For more information about Jiimmie, see this newspaper article.

These images were taken on black and white film with a Leica IIIc sharkskin made in the 1940's and a Leica Summaron 35mm f/3.5 screw mount lens made in the same era.
